Mammogram Update

Well today was the big day to go in for my 1st mammogram. I admit I was a little frightened and not sure what to expect. All I had heard was that you got squished. BUT I wasn't really afraid of being squished rather finding something. I had to fill out a questionnaire about my family history of cancer. My mom got it at age 30 and my dad's sister, Aunt Sara, she also was young like 35-40. I also had to remember the age I was when I started my period. YIKES. I guessed. didn't wait long and was told to remove all my clothing from the waist up and to put on one of those lovely hospital smocks. I went into a room with a machine just like this. The technician has her hand under the clear panel that they close onto your breast.
I admit it wasn't the most pleasant feeling, especially when she told you not to breathe while they were taking the x-ray, but it was over quick. They took 2 pictures of each breast. She told me to get dressed and if the radiologist saw anything to discuss he would come out. Pam, the nurse, came right back and said normal mammogram base lines are taken at 35 and again at age 40 and with my family history to follow the recommendations given by my doctor. And out the door I was, not even 20 minutes later. I left kindof frustrated that I went into the appointment with as much knowledge as I went out with. BUT I did my research online and found this is good, it's those visits with the radiologist or nurses or doctors that aren't. SO that was that. I'll see them again next year!! Remember to ask your doctor for screening recommendations and that early detection saves lives.

Yea! You did it! and now you don't have to worry about the unknown. You rock! I'm sure I'll be talking to you when it's my time. I feel like we haven't talked in forever- I'm ready for warm weather and days at the park. See you tomorrow!

Well that was pretty painless huh?! I can't believe how quick it was for you. But did they say they didn't find anything? I don't get what they mean when they said baseline mammograms are done at 35 & 40. You're 30 with a family history of it, so shouldn't they start now with the baseline mammo? So now do you go every year for one?

Btw-thanks for the recipes!! They all sound YUMMY! I'm going to try that quiche!! YUM!!! Did you make it the other night?

Sorry, let me clarity, this was my baseline mammogram. They'll use this mammo to compare each year against. Yep, quiche was last night!

Yeah! I'm so glad everything is normal. By the way. I want the quiche recipe (but it might have to be saved for when Brian's out of town. He's not a quiche fan).

Congrats on getting it done! I'm so proud of you. I hope nothing ever comes of the check-ups, but at least you are taking the preventative path! Thanks for reminding us all!

Hey lady, your so brave, I had a lump removed about 5 years ago and I still haven't had a mammogram yet. Don't get mad at me, I know I need to have it done! It was just a fibroid but it was the size of a grape by the time I had it removed. Anyway, hope you're doing well!

You are such an inspiration to me!! Thanks for all the info, some of us need all the help we can get! I am glad that you have a good basline to go off of. If that makes sense? hmmm, where did the quiche talk come from? I am getting hungry!
