Jack loves to pick out his own clothes, so when I told him to wear red, white and blue. He went crazy. At least he looks festive. Here the kids are out front by the American Flag.
This was our first year in Boise for the 4th of July. Normally we are camping or in Utah. We attended lots and had a great time. First up was the "We the People" Parade. Here are Maddy & Jack ready to go to the parade.
We arrived and found a shady spot in front of the tree and on the curb. Good thing it got hot quickly when the parade started at 11am.
Someone took our photo and I love how no one BUT me is looking at the camera and smiling. Too bad, I wasn't looking another way it would make the picture better!
The best part of the parade was the last "float," the firetruck. Just before the truck drove up, a fireman ran up to the fire hydrant. He was cranking away to open it up, next came running 2 more men carrying a hose. Oh, uwh, we were in for it! Here they are soaking the crowd. Apparently, the crowd knew this and they attacked the firemen with water balloons. When it was time to move the truck, everyone was soaked. We walked away relatively dry and enjoyed watching the show. Maddy & Jack even walked away with enough candy to have said they went to a parade. Definitely not a typical parade but an enjoyable 4th of July activity.
We headed home, had a great bbq and naps and waited and waited for it to get dark. Geez, it took forever to get dark and start the fireworks. Only because I normally count down til bedtime. About 9pm, we headed out front to light off our firecrackers. We stayed outside for the most part, Maddy did run inside once. She HATES the noises they make. Only running in once is an improvement from last year when we watched them from the front window. I never have really liked sparklers and neither did the kids, at least the neighbors enjoyed them! We headed down to Anne Morrison Park to meet up with friends. About 10:30pm they started, we had a great view. Mike took some great shots with the "firecracker" mode on the camera. M&J loved running around and playing with friends more then guessing the next color to pop up. Lexi even stayed awake for the festivities.
The finale finally came and all 3 were fast asleep for the car ride home. Next year we'll know what's hot and not in Boise for the 4th of July.

Oh, man, these pictures of Jack remind me too much of Nick and Jake! They definitely got the Loveridge genes in them. We missed being with you for the festivities, but it looks like you had a great time building special memories together. Darling bows in the girls' hairs, too!
I love your new header pic! Sounds like a very fun parade and I'm glad you are brave to keep your kiddos up late for the fireworks! We took Catalina the first year she was born (she was 2 weeks old) and she cried so hard we had to leave early. We didn't attempt it again until last summer! :)
Those outfits are just darling! I like the new family photo. The fourth here sounded like a ton of fun - glad it was great!
