Les Mis

With Mike's new commute, he has been racking up the $$ in gas especially when it was cresting $4/gallon and not only the $$ in gas our little Red was not having a good time and required a visit to the Doctor and it was expensive and she still needs a fuel pump or so Mike thinks. And she's a she because the car salesman called the color "MakinzeeRed" It is one of two of my favorite colors--but a purple car is a little much for me. In addition to other expenses that just kept coming up, I suggested that we sell the tickets and use the money to get caught up. Mike insisted that we'd be okay, and a $1200 check from the Mortgage company came in the mail. I still suggested we sell them and save the Mortgage money--I still ask several times a week if he has a job--faith Makinzee, gotta have faith. As much as I suggested to not going, he said NO. I'm glad he did.

Even though her face isn't that happy looking, Mike and I had a great time at Les Miserables last week. A special thanks to Brent and Julie for watching our hoodlums and taking them to Chuck-E-Cheeses ( no wonder they always ask us when we are going to go out on a date again:) and spoiling them rotten. We ate like kings at Market Street and had a wonderful evening even with an unexpected emergency at the play. All I can say is I'm glad I got the quarters at the restaurant to pay for the parking meter. Back to the blog...

I forget how much I love the music of Les Miserables and the story line is so touching. It makes me want to be a better person. And I'm trying to be. Someday when I'm old or we're old, that is what I want to do. Be a play person here and there and everywhere. Although, I still am not sure what all the fuss is about Wicked, it is after all just the Wizard of Oz.

Favorite line of the play "To love another person is to see the face of God." Jean Val Jean

I also love Les Mis (the book way more than the play though) and I also didn't "get" Wicked. I enjoyed it but wouldn't rave about it or go out of my way to see it again or buy the soundtrack or anything. Anyway, sounds like a great date. Even during the times when we know we shouldn't splurge, it feels so good to forget all about that and do it anyway once in awhile. I am glad Mike wouldn't let you sell the tickets.

Oh how I love Les Mis! I watched a PBS Les Mis concert the other night and found myself requesting the soundrack from the library later. I am one of those crazy Wicked fans too though, but probably has a lot to do with the memory of seeing it on an awesome girlfriends trip to Chicago.
Glad you got to enjoy the evening. You look so good Kinz! Can you help me be skinny like you?

LUCKY!! Love me some Les Mis!! Such a wonderful story & the music is THE BEST!! I watched the same PBS special that Robin watched a while ago and it was just amazing! Lucky you to see it in person!!

I HEAR YA about Wicked. Saw it in NYC on our 10th anniversary trip. Eh. It was just ok. There were just a couple songs I liked (popular & for good) and that's about it. It seriously left me a little disappointed and wondering what all the hype was about. I was totally expecting Phantom or Les Mis quality. Not so much. Good, just not as good as I was expecting I guess!! Anyway, I so totally get it!!! So what's the story about the unexpected emergency at the play?? Ohhhhhhhhh - just kidding. After re-reading it, now I think I get it! Did you have a visit from a special visitor unexpectedly?? FUN!!!!!!!

Glad to know Mike still has a job! That's good news!!

So glad you still made it out for an awesome date night despite your best efforts to cancel. :) Dinner at Market Street is always delish, perfect touch there! And the kiddos had a ball too. I saw Wicked a couple years ago and LOVED it!! You'll have to check it out sometime. :) I also love the shows in Vegas, they are incredible!

It was a great show. Again. I don't think I'll ever grow tired of it. We had a great time with the kids, too. They are so fun!

Our night at the theater turned out really awesome on Saturday. Wish it could come again and again...

And as far as Wicked is concerned - just can't compare them. It's like apples and oranges - both are musicals but that's where the comparison ends. I cannot think of another musical that has as much impact as Les Mis. But Wicked is worth seeing at least once. Personally I'm really looking forward to seeing it again. But I listened to the music forever before I saw it the first time, so I had already formulated in my mind what would be happening on the stage. And that carried over to the live production - NYC and Chicago, both.

By the way, Les Mis really only has about four songs, too. They just use the same melodies over and over, sometimes fast, sometimes slow, so they feel like different music. (Actually more than four, but four main ones.)
