Quiz Time: I got this in my Bountiful Basket this week. What is it?

Second Question: What is this? Same or different?

I was so excited to get my produce on Saturday from Bountiful Baskets. I'm loving all the yummy produce I get. What's BB? Go to www.bountifulbasekts.org On Monday mornings at 10am Utah time, you have to order a basket to be picked up at numerous locations in several states on Saturday. I've been getting a basket every 2 weeks. But with my garden starting to produce, I might go later that that.
I ordered a case of strawberries and made 5 batches of freezer jam. My kids love strawberry jam! Back to the basket, we have had a couple new things which now we know we like-artichokes and hicima. Everything else we've received we've loved. This last basket we got lots of peaches, mango's, strawberries, limes, apples, plums and 2 cabbage, carrots, celery and what I thought was rhubarb.
Sunday evening, my brother Brody and Grams came over for dinner. Grams brought with her a London broil---mmmm and a bean salad. I made Chinese Chicken Salad (w/o chicken) from my basket and a delish potato salad. AND for dessert we were going to have rhubarb crisp. A great friend in Boise, Sarah Holderness, gave me rhubarb from her garden and her recipe.
Maddy had just put 1/2 of the crisp in the bottom of the pan and I was slicing the rhubarb. I thought, I better taste this. HMMM, not sour but a beet taste? I said, Mike taste this. Yep, it's rhubarb. Me again, no tastes like beets. I googled beets to see if they grew without a bulb at the end. Nope. Called Mom/aka Tifani who has rhubarb and asked her what I got in my basket. She said have you ever heard of swiss chard? Googled that and what do you know the picture looked exactly like what I got in my BB.
My taste buds were very disappointed, and now what do I do with swiss chard all chopped up like celery ready to go into a crisp (I dug out the leaves from the trash apparently they are edible too). So if you know what to do with swiss chard let me know.
And now looking at the two--I can tell which is rhubarb and which is swiss chard. Guess I need to go back to school and take Veggies 101!
And I promise to post recipes of all the yummy things I've mentioned.

Hahaha. I totally need to sign up for bountiful baskets!!! Um, swiss chard is my FAVORITE!!! We always used to grow it in the garden (it keeps growin even as you pick it!... why don't I grow this anymore?) We would always just wash it, steam it a little bit, and serve it hot with some vinegar and salt/pepper. Mmmm. My mouth is watering! You could still do that with it all chopped up, just steam it for a shorter time. Some people don't like vinegar as much as I do (sad) and I think they just put butter and s&P on it... Good luck!
Hi Kinz, I made that potato salad last weekend too! Only I used the small yukon gold potatoes I got from BB a couple of weeks ago! It feels like I haven't seen you in ages...Hope all is well!
Swiss chard on the top, Rhubarb on the bottom??? Sadly enough, I have never had either. How lame is that? I remember growing up my dad saying how good rhubarb was, but I've never tried it. I need to come to your house. Want to be my personal chef?? ;)
That's funny. But how disappointing. I would have done the same and I grew up with Swiss Chard. Actually only ever ate the leaves, not the stalk. Very similar to Spinach except a better flavor. We didn't get any in our basket down here, though. Just some wilted lettuce - but I've revived it just fine by putting it in a baggy with water in the fridge - and now it's all crisp and happy again!
I did give BB a second chance and am ever so glad I did. What a great variety of wonderful foods we got! Love all the fruit!
I haven't tried swiss chard...or BB- I need to look into it I think!! Fresh garden veggies are THE BEST!!! Your dinner with Grandmother and your bro sounded awesome, thanks for posting recipes!
Wow, those recipes sound yummy. I'll have to try some. And I'm loving my bb from saturday. I didn't get in quick enough to get the peaches this week so boo :( I was gonna spend my 4th bottling peaches. Oh well. Thanks for getting me hooked.
