May

Mother's Day weekend was so busy for us...we needed more hours in the day to do what we wanted to do. Friday night we grabbed a bite to eat with some friends before they headed to the movies...didn't think I could leave a 6 week old to go see Avengers. Good thing because after we ate and headed to Target to do some shopping little one woke up screaming...date night cut short. BUT dinner was yummy and I didn't have to cook!

Saturday morning, I headed to pick up our Bountiful Basket. MMMM, lots of fruits and veggies to encourage us to eat healthy. We then loaded up the van. We took Grammie and Aunt Jill to breakfast at Ruth's Diner celebrating Grammies bday and Mother's Day. We sat out on the patio and it was beautiful. Little one slept all through breakfast...and eggs Benedict did not disappoint.

We then headed to Toys R Us so Jack and Lexi could spend their birthday money. Lexi came out with a giant gallon of bubbles, a butterfly bubble wand and a sand bucket. Jack got 2 DS games and 1 Wii game, a Hex bug and lots of matchbook cars. I guess one little boy can never tire of collecting cars.

We headed to Fashion Place mall to go add to my Brighton necklace...yay my 4th charm. And last in case you were wondering. You saw what else we did at the mall with Lexi's earrings. She still loves them. One came out this week and luckily it went right back in. They are to stay in for 6 months and then the holes should be permanent.

On the way home from the mall, we stopped at Glover's Nursery to do some Earth Day shopping. Oh my, it's hard to decide what to buy there. Love that place.

We spent more money than anyone would want to but its spring and that's what you do with your money is improve your yard, right? Here's what we bought: 2 juniper trees, 5 blue spire euonymous, 6 day lilly's (had to buy some lilly's now that we have our own:), 2 lilac bushes, 1 rose of sharon, snapdragons, and several other ground covers. Then we went to load up the van and had a stroller, 2 scooters and decided we'd be back to pick up the plants! On the way home from the nursery, Mike stopped at Home Depot and picked up several bags of potting mix, stain for the deck and playground, and some sprinkler supplies. It was 6 o'clock when he started digging...it was 10:30pm when he stopped. Guess he was counting the planting as an early Mother's Day present.

What do you think? We love it!!
And an up close view. The tulips and daffodils are gone but the snapdragons, marigolds and petunias will soon be filling up all the gaps.

Out back things are in bloom too. I forgot how heavenly iris smells. These blue and yellow flowers are all over my yard. My raspberries are looking healthy too. Thanks Grams for all the starts, I just love our yard.

Last but not least, the garden finally got planted this week. Having a newborn takes up lots of time, so we do things in bits and pieces. Can't wait for the green beans to sprout, the tomatoes to turn red and the pumpkins to get orange.
I enjoyed Mother's Day at church, my first week back. Maddy and Jack sang a Mother's Day medley, which of course brought tears to my eye. I esp love the song a Child's Prayer. In YW, we had each girl tell what they loved about their mom. It was an emotional time, not a dry eye in the room. We headed home and enjoyed naps and a relaxing afternoon. Julie and Brent and Leslie came over for dinner, yummy bbq chicken, twice baked potatoes, heavenly spinach salad and strawberry shortcake for dessert. It was the best, relaxing Mother's Day and an end to a great and busy weekend.

Didn't realize the planting had been done less than 24 hours before we saw it. It really looks great. Amazed at all you do with that new baby! It was so fun to get to celebrate Mother's Day with you. Thanks for letting us come a third Sunday in a row!
