Jack's Baptism

When you turn 8 at our house, it's a big deal! We celebrate. We belong to the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, when you turn 8 you are given the opportunity to be baptized and confirmed a member of the church. Jack choose to be baptized, he has been looking forward to this day for 8 years.

During Spring Break, Mike and Jack went to the Oquirrh Mountain temple grounds to take pictures for his announcement cards. His shirt was brand new and I didn't notice when he left the house that his collar was creased, neither did Mike until we were editing pics. BUT I think we still got lots that are great with or with out a creased collar!.

And here is the final product!
Love it Mike! Thanks for being so handy.

The day of Jack's baptism was crazy as usual. We had 2 ball games, cleaning, last minute food to prepare, lawn mowed, and of course the baptism. We accomplished it all, I did wake up at 5 but everything on my to do list was finished. Lexi &  Madison had ball games before the baptism, Dan Mike's brother who is living in Chicago flew in Friday for the baptism. He didn't want to miss it even though he was just here a week before with the funeral. He went to Madison's game and then to the house and became our photographer!  I knew if we didn't take pictures before it wouldn't happen, sure enough as soon as we got home all the kids got dressed in casual clothes!

One of my favorites!
We arrived at the church and Mike and Jack had to quickly change into the white clothing to be baptized in. I didn't leave them much time, Mike really wanted to wear the white clothing to the church and went along with my plan instead which had him changing clothes twice. BUT we made it, we arrived at the church to find that our family had made it also.

The Stake did the opening prayer, talk and song and then we went and Jack was baptized. I admit I got teary eyed thinking of how exciting this was for Jack, thinking about how my little boy is growing up and making big decisions but also how our Savior must feel when we also go to the waters of baptism. Just like we do, He is so excited for us. Jack was grinning from ear to ear, his smile was contagious, he admitted he was a little nervous but quickly the nerves went away! The room was filled with family, friends, primary teachers, ward members and several people mentioned angels. Yes, the angels were there with us that day as well. For sure, Grandpa Loveridge and Grandma Brooke and Grandpa Jack just to name a few.

Jack was later confirmed a member and received the Holy Ghost by his father. The prayer and blessing was beautiful and blessed Jack in so many ways that I didn't even think was possible. Jack is a peacemaker, he is a giver, he is a lover, he is honest, he loves everyone, he works hard at anything he does whether it's playing the Wii or reading a book or at school or playing sports. Jack loves to play! He is a good example, he teaches me and he has a heart of gold! The spirit confirmed to me and him of what an amazing son he is. I am so lucky to be his mother.

Grampa Buddy aka Steve gave the talk on the Holy Ghost, Madison played Families are Forever on the piano and Grammie gave the closing prayer. The program was spiritual and I know all that were there felt the spirit. Jack listened intently to everything and tried to bring it all in. I wanted to bear my testimony on Fast Sunday at church, but the meeting was nonstop and already ran over so I didn't have a chance to publicly bear testimony of how proud I was of Jack. I asked Jack if he wanted to go up with me. No way! That's ok, it is scary. I know that Jack has felt the spirit. At Grandpa's funeral he leaned over and told me he couldn't' breathe, I told him that was the Holy Ghost. I felt that same spirit when he received the Holy Ghost and know Jack did also. My dad told Jack to remember that feeling and that the Spirit would guide him through his life. It was like his favorite blanket and the spirit could wrap him up and make him feel warm and safe and loved if he was worthy to.

The weekend was wonderful! I'm proud to be Jack's mom and thank Heavenly Father for his special spirit in my life and in our family. I love you Jack! So proud of you.

Julie, took lots of pictures at our house following the baptism. Thank you in advance! I can't wait to see them. And a big thanks to all the family and friends who came to support Jack in this special day. We missed those that couldn't make it.

Wonderful recap of an awesome day. I wondered who your photographer was for the before the baptism photo. I'm only six weeks behind on my posts right now, trying to get caught up, too. So maybe sometime in the next week or two I'll get the ones posted from the baptism. Glad you can't wait! It was so fun.

And I, too, wanted to stand in our meeting on Sunday, but it was a very busy meeting as well, and I had to leave in the middle to get Dan to the airport. But I was so proud of Jack and Brent and I were both delighted to be able to share that experience with all of you!

What a lovely post, and even though you didn't get to stand in church, you have now recorded your testimony here, where it will resonate even longer. You got some great pictures, both of Jack and of the family. When you said the Stake gave the prayer I was confused for a minute, wondering why the Stake was there. I forgot that in the west, they do Stake baptisms. Here it is always a solo event, which is kind of special but it is also fun to have those baptism buddies who shared your big day. I still remember who my baptism buddies were.

Glad we could be part of his special day. Can't believe how fast all of these hood kids are growing up. Jack is a good kid. Congratulations!
