In 4th grade, one of the main subjects taught is Utah counties. Maddy was so bummed when she came home from school because she didn't get the county she wanted. She got Weber county but wanted Utah county. I told her it was perfect timing because we were going to the Ogden Temple Open House which was in Weber county this weekend and we could go site seeing while we were there. We also learned it was Weber County RAMP day which meant several attractions in the county were free admission. The kids really wanted to go back to the Ogden Tree House Museum that we visited earlier this year but our tour of the temple would end when the museum closed. Hill Air Force Base was one of the exhibits that we could go to and no one in the family had been before.
I went for a morning run, we as a family cleaned the church, Mike and I mowed the lawn all while Lexi didn't feel well from having a kinked neck and Jake Staker was framing our basement. I took the opportunity to have Mike help me haul up stuff to take to the DI, made a trip to the DI only to realize we were running out of time to go to the museum before we needed to be in Ogden for the temple open house. We took a shower, packed a lunch and headed to Weber County in addition to Lilly falling asleep in the car on the way home from the DI because the day before she figured out she could climb out of her crib and wouldn't take a nap. We also spent Friday evening at 7 peaks, Mike met us after work. Sad day when she climbed out of her crib. I was going to keep her in it til she was in college!!
Our first stop was the museum. We signed the book as to where we came to see the museum. And were greeted by a volunteer who answered any and all of our questions.

Most of the planes were originals or had been damaged in combat multiple times, some were replicas some were fast, some were big, some were helicopters. There were so many! 3 buildings worth including the ones you drive by on I-15.
To keep the place cool, they have giant fans (taller than I am), here the little girls are blowing in the wind. Love Lexi's smile in this one!
The greeter told us to look for the Black Bird. We found it. I saw a huge black helicopter and assumed it was the black bird until we saw the sign. jack is standing in front of it. IT IS HUGE!
These are some of its records! Amazing!
This is the inside of a helicopter.
Oh BTW, Mike wanted Maddy to take pictures to add to her report. Well she took some and then Jack and Lexi wanted to also, so we have lots of random pictures from the museum.
All the kids were amazed by the missiles. Lexi was so worried that one would crash into our house like it did in Japan (that was pretty mean come to think of it). We tried to explain that we weren't in war but not sure it clicked! I guess we need to take her to the SLC International Airport to see different air planes. I tried to explain that these planes didn't take her to Disneyland but to War. Lots for a 5 year old to grasp!
On the way out of the museum I told Maddy I would buy her an airplane to put on her float box that is included in the Weber County report. She was hesitant. I told her it would make the float box so easy to add a plane. We found the black bird plane and she was sold. All of the children found a plane to take home but at $8.50 a pop, I bought one! Jack promised to pay me back at home and then bought 2 .50 ring pops to call it good! Gift shops are the death of me sometimes!JUNK but the kids love and find treasures everywhere.
We left Hill and headed to the temple. We did a quick change of clothes and walked toward the temple. Lexi decided to wear her "tap shoes" as she calls them, they are really her pageant shoes with a tall hill. She clipped clipped all through the temple even with booties on. Needless to say her feet hurt (in addition to her neck--still not sure how she kinked it but it stuck around for 3 days at least).
As a teenager, Ogden Temple is where I went to do baptisms for the dead because it was the closest temple to where I grew up. In the 10 minute video before touring the temple, they showed a picture of the old temple. It is amazing it is even the same place! The only thing that remains from the old temple is the framing.
These stain glass windows were so pretty. Lots of rose flowers can be found throughout the temple. Hard to see how gorgeous they truly are.
Lilly loved the tour. She didn't want booties on so we carried her, she did wish she could walk and oh I wished she could have also she is getting heavy! She loved seeing Jesus' pictures in the temple and would point at each picture and say His name. I loved hearing my children remember a story by the picture on the walls. The celestial room was so peaceful and bright and a great reminder that we need to renew our temple recommends!
We had the wrong lens on and couldn't get a picture of the whole temple. So here it is without Moroni (he was up above so he got to see him also).
We drove in and saw Farr's ice cream. It had tents set up and was definitely a place to be after the tour. It was very unorganized inside and took forever to get our order. They had at least 10 scoopers but they were just standing around while one person took the orders. BUT it was worth it. We all enjoyed a big scoop! It hit the spot it was hot outside!
We drove past Weber State University on our way home, I told the kids that is where I had basketball camps when I was growing up. Beautiful university! Ogden is a pretty town, and Maddy is excited it is her county to learn more about. Her float box is done just need to start the brochure and work on her oral report. It is due after Labor Day, I'd like it done before that!! We shall see.

Wow, you really jumped in and tackled that report with both hands. Luckily you got a county close enough to home to go visit in person. The Ogden temple looks great! Wasn't it one of the ugly ones (like Provo) that looked like a carrot cake. They suffered from a lapse in architectural judgment but not anymore.
Surprised you've never been to the museum before. It's always free, we usually go once a year or so. We loved the Ogden Temple Open House. What a transformation! It went from one of the ugliest temples to one of the prettiest ones :)
Funny how tastes change. I remember when the Ogden and Provo temples were built, they were so unique and beautiful and modern looking. We loved the design. Unfortunately, they dated pretty quickly as well. This looks so pretty! Can't wait to see it, too. Wish we could have gone with you.
