Remember back when Lilly turned 2 in March and we went to the Allergist and her skin and blood tests came back negative for peanut and tree nuts? Well the Doctor said if we were comfortable we could do a doctor visit where HE feeds her PEANUTS! I was comfortable with it in March but didn't know if Lilly would be able to tell me if she was uncomfortable. So I held off.
A month of so ago, Lilly caught a cold (probably from nursery) and told me her neck hurt. I took that that she would be able to tell me if her stomach hurt or her throat was itchy from having peanuts. So I scheduled an appointment. I was warned it would take 3-4 hours--it was a long 3 hours and 51 minute doctor visit!
Doctor was still trying to pin point what it is exactly that is making Lilly sensitive to nuts. So he did another skin test on her back with every nut out there. Poor Lilly did not like it. They prick your back with something sharp that has the nut oil in it and then watch the reaction. Every thing came back negative!! Which was a good sign.
So while we waited we played with toys!
We looked out the small window.

Lilly ate a cracker that had peanut butter on it every ten minutes.

The first cracker had a teaspoon of PB, 2nd double until our last cracker (probably the 6th or 7th) had 2 Table spoons of PB.
This is her new favorite way to smile for the camera. Cheezing it with her eyes closed! And then she wants to see the picture.

Yes it was a long 3 hours and 51 minutes. We spun our selves silly. This is where she ate the last cracker--it was covered in PB! As was she and everything in between. I didn't get a picture of her when she escaped out of the small office room and was running down the hall as fast as she could! Yes we had had it! She was an angel though and everyone thought she was cute. Which she is!?!

After you consume the last 2 TB of PB you have to wait an hour--longest hour of our life! The Doctor finally came in and said she's free! Use caution, keep an epi pen handy and let her eat nuts. I said do I need to come back and do the tree nut test and he said no they all came back negative also but to call him with questions!
YIKES! It was almost easier checking labels and not giving her nuts than it is too. The worry is still there but at least life will be easier with what she can and can't eat!
Her nickname should be peanut now!

I go for the 'peanut' nickname idea! She's such a nut! So glad she's allergy free. But the experience has definitely opened my eyes to the challenges facing parents and grandparents for children who do have serious allergies. I'll bet the entire staff was absolutely adoring her. She's such a cutie!
