Lexi was eating breakfast and it sounded like she hit her head on the sliding door. BUT I saw feathers. The poor bird landed on the grill. I wish I could say my windows were sparkly clean but they were the opposite! Poor thing, I couldn't stand to remove him so left him there for Mike! I'm not a fan of cleaning up dead things-mice, birds, spiders, eek!! Bird was green and beautiful. RIP!
Since Maddy was in Kindergarten every year we have done our summer reading and mailed in our reading to get a free ticket to the Utah State Fair. BUT never have gone. It is only one week and we usually have school so we've never gone. This year the Fair fell over our Track Break so I told our friends to mail in the certificates so we could go together. The Fair is only a week and every night we had something so I wasn't sure we were going to make it. We decided to go in the day so we went without the Dad's. It was HOT and every turn you take more money! $8 to park! And cash only. BUT the kids had a great time and we took lots of silly pictures.

They had the cutest kids stop. I forget the name but you take a basket and go to every stop along the way. First was the animals. Give animals some oats. Brush the sheep. Pick an apple from the tree.

Plant a seed n the sand, pick the carrots.

Drive the tractor-plow the field.

And then you graduate! LOL.

At the end you turn in your money and get a prize. Jack and Lincoln are eating an apple--their prize. And then we stood by the sign that shows how tall a horse is. I was shocked that Maddy was only 1/2 inch shorter than Gage who is a year older than her. She is tall! Still hoping Jack catches a growth spurt soon.

We saw lots of animals at the Fair. Our favs were the baby animals. The girls are looking at baby chicks. We also got suckered into getting Alli's hair curled. An hour later we were on our way! The kids all asked why the man was wearing such tight pants, and why he talked like a girl and wore makeup. He did complement me on my teeth. YIKES! We visited the stores and came home with fair finds $5 glasses and a new blouse for mom and kettle corn! The kids also got a free ride-- I had to pay for Lexi to ride the carousel. This is another place the fair gets you, that and all the yummy food you smell! They also got a free soda pop! We managed to keep track of the kids and didn't loose any for too long. It is always a fun time to be had with the Wakley family.

Another reading perk this summer was the free museum day at the Natural History Museum. Jack and I went here for a field trip last spring, but it was a first for the rest of the group. We meet Kami & Abby & Ryan and walked around the museum doing a scavenger hunt for the kids to get a free prize for! They also made these cute hats.
And of course my cow girls found a horse to ride along the way. After the museum we headed to Gramies for a visit and to do our own scavenger hunt for missing rings. Lilly picked up her gold rings and put them in a special place. We searched her hole house! No rings. Still hopeful we can find them another day.
Another adventure!!We meet up with cousins Blakely and Beckett at Wheeler Farms. It's been a couple years since we've been here. The kids also enjoyed looking at the animals and roaming the farm. This coop has been here since I was a child!
Another adventure awaits! Really LOVING school and track breaks. This is a gorgeous time of year. Warm really HOT days and cool nights. We are excited to have a little break. It feels weird to not be in school --almost like the kids are sluffing! Lexi was given homework to do (read, count, rhymes, play counting games) and Maddy and Jack were encouraged to play Reflex to sharpen up on their multiplication and division skills. So far so good! No complaints! More track break adventures to come! I've posted lots today! Playing catch up.

So glad the kids get some make up time for the summer they lost. The great part is that it's been mostly warm enough to still do all the summer kinds of activities, but less crowded and not nearly so hot. Looks like some really fun activities! I love that you got to spend a day at the fair with them and that they went on tickets they earned themselves! Way to go, Maddy, Jack, and Lexi!
