Our school holds one fundraiser at the beginning of the school year, to earn money for PTA programs. field trips, assemblies, Teacher Appreciation stuff, etc. It fell on a Friday this year, so I wasn't working and was able to come help and watch the kids run. I arrived just after the 5th graders had started, when I saw jack he was already sweaty and lots of tally marks. After the kids run 1/8 of a mile, they get a tally mark. They keep track of the Fastest Falcon along with who runs the most laps. Jack said the course was longer this year, last year he got 19 laps this year only 12. Here he is with some of his 5th grade buddies. I really am having a hard time, writing 5th. No way is he that old!
Next up was Lexi's 2nd grade classes. Didn't get any pictures running because I was busy tallying points on shirts but snapped a couple after. Lexi is cooking off with a snow cone. She ran 11 laps. Yesterday, she was trying to convince me to donate $100, I told her if she ran 100 laps I would. I pay $1 per lap. The goal is to raise $25/kid, I almost wish it were a family goal maybe it would be less. Nevertheless, I will get out my checkbook and write a $75 check to the school. At dinner last night, the kids did talk Grandma into sponsoring them also. Last year, they went around the neighborhood asking for donations but I really hate asking people for money so I said I'd just pay! Lexi is pleased to have $11 to her name.
Mrs. Taylor did have a class picture taken, the Japanese Man has been learning English and helping Mrs. T for the past 2 weeks. Lexi has really enjoyed learning about Japan and getting to know him. He is the sweetest guy, all of the classes have had the Japanese assistants helping them. They'll all be sad come Monday when they leave, teachers and students! They have taught the children many things and even gave gifts. Very generous.
And 6th graders. After the race, found the girls in the shade enjoying their snow cones. So fun to have all these friends on the same track, almost all are on A. We have been very blessed to have great friends in the neighborhood and then at schools and all will go to Middle School with them next year, High School well that's another story! BUT at least that's years away, although it'll be here before we know it. Fun for me to see lots of friends aka Mom's at the Jog a thon also, I just love Elk Meadows!!
And a picture to add of Jack and his child labor. All summer, I've been hinting at earning money if he mows the lawn, last week he finally did it and loved it. He earned a bag for his new headphones that he bought and this week money. Not a bad thing, since yard work is Mike's least favorite past time. Glad I got one that loves to work, especially if it is for money!
