Jack

Had a post all completed and somehow lost it. First one was better than this but here goes 2nd draft!

Jack has excelled in 2nd grade this year. He has had a fantastic teacher that has helped him learn and succeed. I'm grateful for a wonderful school and teachers that help my children learn, grow and succed.

Mike was able to come to school for Jack's Fantastic Falcon assembly also. What we didn't know was that Jack was being awarded 3 awards instead of just the one!

Jack was 1 of 4 kids in the entire school (800+) to not miss any school and to have 100% attendance and no tardies. Thank goodness for a bus that gets my kids to school every day and for no sick days and no planned family vacations during school. Way to go Jack!

His 2nd award was 2nd place in the 2nd grade mile race. His friend Mason placed 1st with a record time of 7 min 50 sec, Jack was a hair (or a centimeter as Jack calls it) behind Mason. We don't know his total time but I'm guessing it was pretty fast! Way to go Jack and Mason.
Next up was the award we came to see, Jack's Fantastic Falcon. He has worked all year long to achieve this award. Some of the things he has done: 2,500 reading minutes; write your full name, address,  phone number, and birth date; Have fewer than 10 absences; return 90% or more of your homework; Complete a Christmas Around the World doll; Run a mile in less than 15 minutes; Earn an average of 90% on spelling and vocabulary tests; count by 2s, 5s, and 10s to 100; 25s to 200, and 3s to 30; Finish the handwriting book using neat and correct penmanship; Be able to tell time in 5 minutes increments; Recognized and count coin combinations to $1.00; Participate in the school Art Night; Complete and enter a submission in the Reflections Contest
Jack is 1 of 16 out of 21 kids from his class to receive his Fantastic Falcon. Every year it gets harder and harder.I am proud of Jack for achieving this goal and working towards it all year long. Way to go Jack. I think you are fantastic!!
On a side note, Jack's teacher announced that she will not be teaching school next year at Elk Meadows. She was going to be Lexi's Kindergarten teacher next year. My heart is crushed! I was so excited for Lexi to have her. Lexi was also, she has spent a lot of time with me at school and knows how fun school is! She has a new job that will allow her more time with her 14 month old son and teaching part time Kinder at another school. While my heart is broken, I appreciate all she has done for Jack and his self esteem, in addition to teaching him right from wrong and how to work hard. Best of luck kids. The kids are all also going separate ways from the boundary changes. I know of 5 different schools kids will be attending just from Jack's 2nd grade age group.

Jack almost cleaned house at the assembly, when they announced that Jack had also won the 2nd grade spelling bee I was shocked! He didn't tell me he won the entire 2nd grade, he told me he was in the contest but not that he won it! Come to find out it was a different Jack.
